Jill Ellis

Jill Ellis is a visionary and devoted leader in the field of early intervention and special education. In 1980, she co-founded CEID, the Center for Early Intervention on Deafness, in Berkeley, California, and has been the sole Executive Director since 1990. She is the author of the Pediatric Guide to Infant and Childhood Hearing Loss (1st and 2nd editions), and she created “Show ‘n Tell Stories,” an animated sign language videotape series that promotes early literacy. Ms. Ellis has been a regular trainer and lecturer for the State Department of Education/Special Education since 1981, training more than 3,000 teachers, administrators and early intervention case managers.  She also has presented at numerous national and international conferences on the newborn hearing screening and best practice strategies for early intervention.

Ms. Ellis has received Life Time Achievement Awards from Mayor Willie Brown and the Berkeley Community Fund. In 2008 she received the Jefferson Award for her unyielding service to the community.
